The first British Jumping Derby took place in 1961 - with fences like the Devil’s Dyke, the vast Open Water and the 10ft 6in slope of the Derby Bank, it was an instant hit and resonated with the public in a way no other class ever had.
With the 59th Al Shira'aa Derby taking place this Sunday, we ask some of the legendary four-time winners of the class to tell us why they think it's so special.
